Marked: desserts and collisions

Monday’s the day for trying something new. A new recipe, a new idea, or even reading something different; and it’s so easy to find these great new things through the WordPress community.

So rather than bury them in my own list of likes and comments, or as a list of great writing stuck on the end of another post, we’re going to try something new. These shiny, new ideas, the ones I might want to re-read or the recipes I want to make, one day, will appear in a weekly round-up.

Recipes

There are so many talented cooks around. They keep coming up with recipes that are so good they just have to be liked, or commented on, or bookmarked in the belief that, one day, I will try them. Sometimes it’s the photo: the dish looks too gorgeous to go past.

The only thing is that it can be very hard to find that one recipe that you know you saw, somewhere, and you have now just managed to source the ingredients.

So here’s the dishes from the past week that are crying out to enter our list of family favourite recipes. And one day, I promise, I’ll make them. They’re all quick and inexpensive. I can see an afternoon dessert-fest coming up sometime soon.

Mousses and panna cotta without cream or sugar or gluten or egg

A mousse without cream or sugar. Who would have thought it? Quite a few, it seems.

  • Lori from Creating Beauty in the Kitchen gave us her lemon almond mousse, and it looks superb. How very elegant!
  • Nadine, of nade in the kitchen, has her easy-peasy mousse au chocolat. She’s 18 and already such a good cook.
  • The panna cotta comes courtesy of matchamochi. Her vegan almond panna cotta looks amazing and uses ingredients that most cooks will already have in their pantry in one form or another.

Homemade chocolates with quinoa and almonds

If you’re on the lookout for ways to eat chocolate without blowing your über healthy diet, then eatmunchlove’s homemade chocolates with quinoa and almonds look like a good option, in small quantities, of course! Now we just have to buy some dark chocolate, and make these little treats before certain household members eat it all.

For something different: Jalebis

You might not have ever come across these sweets before: I hadn’t. But Indu’s International Kitchen has given us these delectably sweet Indian pastries. I can see it now: coffee, sun, sitting back, a weekend breakfast, and jalebis. We had sun for a few hours last Saturday, so I’ve scheduled these for the next time the sun manages to win its ongoing battle with the cloudy winter fog one weekend.

Some star writers

The WordPress weekly writing challenge seems to bring out some wonderful writers. Some bring with them a sense of optimism that begs to be savoured with a hot cup of tea (or coffee) in hand. Some are thought-provoking. Some are just an old-fashioned good read. They deserve to be in a list of favourites for the week.

This latest challenge was based on the idea of worlds colliding. There were some great pieces of writing and my favourites are:

  4. Wow, thank you so much for including me in your list of star writers. However, Honest Me and Humble Me would both like to point out that you’ve listed me twice. 🙂

Love your blog. I’m going to to try your kale salad recipe next time kale turns up in my weekly fruit and veg box. Always been challenged to know what to do with it. (I think there’s fennel coming tomorrow.)
